Christian Vassallo studied Classics at the University of Naples “Federico II”, where he obtained his PhD in Ancient Philosophy, with a dissertation on Plato’s Republic. After several research stays in Germany and advanced courses in papyrology and palaeography in Italy and abroad, he has been for five years team member of the European Project ERC-Starting Grant 241184-PHerc (Interactive Edition and Interpretation of Various Works by Epicurean and Stoic Philosophers Surviving at Herculaneum), Junior Research Fellow of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche(CNR-ILIESI) in Rome, and DFG-Stipendiatat the University of Trier with a research project on the Herculanean tradition of the Presocratics (Die Vorsokratiker in den Herkulanensischen Papyri). He has been Fulbright Visiting Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame (IN, USA) and Research Assistant Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the University of Calabria (Cosenza), where he is now Associate Professor of History of Ancient Philosophy at the Department of Cultures, Education, and Society (DiCES). His main research interests concern Presocratic philosophy and doxography, Socratic dialogues and Platonic tradition, Ancient aesthetics and rhetoric, the reception of Greek thought into the modern and contemporary philosophy.
